
Gerald J. Fitzgerald Jr., D.O. is known as Doc Fitz to his patients
and friends. He’s a graduate of Michigan State University with a B.S. in
medical technology and a D.O. from the College of Osteopathic Medicine.
In the mid 1980's, Doc Fitz was the laboratory supervisor for the
National Legal Laboratories and ran the DNA laboratory division.
DNA testing was in its infancy and not even accepted in most
court systems. During this time, Doc Fitz served with Dr.
Henry Gerschowitz from The University of Michigan, a pioneer in human
genetics.
In the 1990's Doc Fitz spent seven years as the physician for the
PGA. Today, Doc Fitz owns and operates Fitz Tropics Medical
Associations, a successful, active family practice in Florida. He’s also
on staff at Largo Medical Center, Suncoast Hospital and is the director
of Wright’s Nursing Home and Oak Manor Nursing Home.
Doc Fitz is passionate about preventing and treating colorectal
cancer, which he says is almost 100 percent preventable. “No one should
ever die from this horrible disease. It’s time to eliminate the barriers
to getting tested and beat the embarrassment!â€
In his many years of practice Doc Fitz has seen many patients and
their families suffer from the effects of colorectal cancer. “Your
privacy, dignity and well being are my most important concern,†Doc Fitz
says.
In Doc Fitz’s spare time, he volunteers with the Special Olympics and
enjoys many activities including physical fitness, golf, tennis and
swimming.
